Cool. You know, I never saw a firearm until I entered the military. My dad never had guns in the house and didn't even own a weapon until after I did. Dad and mom were wise in a lot of ways, but I don't agree with that part.
Every kid should be exposed to guns at an early age. Even if there are not guns in their house, there will likely be guns in their friend's houses. Learning to respect a weapon and to stay away from it outside of direct adult supervision will get rid of the curiosity factor that results in accidental shootings. Kids are going to see one side on TV. They need to learn the real side from a responsible adult.
Now, if a child can learn how to use a firearm safely and accurately, that's all the better. Guns are part of our society and will be for the foreseeable future. Just like swimming, it's something every kid should learn.
