Yeah, I think Ice is right on that.  You don't see the old interfaces in consumer devices but you do in industrial stuff.  I still have stuff at work that uses RS232 and Centronics protocols.

I don' t see them going to Mini Displayport but definitely HDMI.

I don't see any other monitors with mini-display port but maybe a couple of Asus ones. Plus nVidia doesn't really have a lot of cards with mini-display port as well. Even though in the last Lion update there was embedded in it full support for nVidia cards for most newer high end models but not for the 69XX series of AMD.

Okay, I got my EVGA 19 USB monitor adapter.  WOW!  I wish I knew before how easy these things are to install and get working.  Took me a couple of minutes to plug in the DVI on one side and the USB into the computer.  It works great.  Works well with Synergy (networked wireless mouse and keyboard) and all the other software that I use.  I have it handling some pretty intense real time graphics with is the band scope for my radio - not a problem.  I don't have any high end games so I don't know if it would have issues there or not.  I also checked DPCs and it's not generating those.  $70 is much less than I would have spent on a good graphics card and I can move it around between systems with out using a screwdriver.
