Gun club - sort of
« on: 14 January 2012, 14:51:29 »
I'm thinking about starting a group for gun enthusiast to meet on a scheduled basis to shoot, and also to set up some competitive shooting.

This would be loosely structured, no dues, minutes etc. The only monies involved would be to register for the competitive games.

Would anyone be interested in starting a group like this?

It depends on how often, where, etc. That said, I am very interested.

We would probably shoot near Mobile on BLM land and how often depends on the group.  Maybe we can meet once every 6 weeks or so; if we get enough interest we could increase the times or have impromptu gatherings.

What are your thought's?

Personally, I think meeting at the Elsy Pearson range in CG would work best, primarily because they have REAL shooting lanes as opposed to desert. Mind you I enjoy shooting out in the desert but it is not accessible to all (i.e. I do not have a high clearance vehicle which is usually necessary to reach to 'out there' locations).
Plus they have parking. I realize this is just one perspective, I could always try to catch a ride with another shooter. There is also the issue that BLM land will occasionally have restrictions due to high fire danger periods which will limit legal accessibility.

I'd prefer the desert, and if we shoot off 83rd, even a Chevy cavalier can get there. Then do the CG range when desert is restricted.
6 Weeks sounds good.

Yeah 83rd is very accessible, I would also be interested. Maybe someone would bring a cavalier to shoot!

If it was at thw CG range I would definitely pass. Too many issues there with no official range master, and open public crowd to try and rin organized matches.

If its open desert like 83rd I would likely be interested, and could help organize various types of matches.

Oh, I forgot the open desert has a range master and never has any unwanted crowd. Guess I should pull my head out of the sand.

I didn't know the place off 83rd was that accessible, do you have coordinates? Is it officially BLM?

Nope the desert obviously has no range master.... however you wouldn't have to contend with other people trying to shoot like on a public range during your match. I have no problem with no range master/staff... I have a problem with trying to shoot a match while sharing a public range with no range master/staff..
You ever run a match Macro?
Have you ever tried to reset targets between relays on range that is open to others besides those shooting in the match?
How about scoring targets with the same situation?
If you ever had you would understand how difficult that is. If you had then you would understand that my issues with the situation have nothing to do with YOU.

Bases on you recent comments directed to me, you obviously do take issue with me. I don't know why, especially considering you don't know me, yet you seem to take every opportunity to slam me.

I said I wasn't interested if it was at the CG range and the reason that I wasn't. How did that have anything to do with you?

My comments are partly due to your recent comments on another thread, as I am sure you are aware.

Anyway, back to topic... it would be great to be involved in a competitive shoot.
