The driver was indeed lucky. They had a helo on standby. I was at 347 and the 10 when the call came out. I was fully expecting the copter to have been on the way. The initial size up placed the injuries worse than what they found.
The crash had to have occured just after I came through the intersection. Gill River's response time was awesome.
As I watched them use the jaws, I wondered to myself how often they must use those in any given week. The way they worked was very matter-of-fact. It was just like watching a firefighter take a ladder off a rig. It wasn't so much that they drill on this, it was more like an everyday event. It was just very fluid, all the way down to them touching the victim and calming her.
Be carefull out there. A simple drive can turn out to be very different in the blink of an eye.
Very much the wrong way to start a day or a week.
