Have "Coffee with the Chief"
First event to be held Saturday, Dec. 10

In an effort to foster on-going communication with citizens of Maricopa, Police Chief Steve Stahl will be hosting a monthly "Coffee with the Chief." The first event will take place Saturday, Dec. 10, from 8-9 a.m. at the Maricopa Public Library. This event is open to the public with a brief update on the state of the Maricopa Police Department from Chief Stahl, followed by a question and answer session. Everyone is encouraged to "bring your own coffee" and come meet the Chief, ask questions and find out what's happening in the Police Department.

I may stop by for this.
It sounds like a great oppertunity to meet the new acting chief and have an open discussion on issues that relate to the community.

Just came back from the meeting.  Very interesting get together.  Mallard was there, too.  Photos will be forthcoming.

Interim Maricopa Police Chief Steve Stahl met with community members this morning for "Coffee With The Chief."  His stated goal is to have these meetings monthly, and to answer questions and concerns from residents at these meetings.

Chief Stahl talked about his personal history in Law Enforcement, as well as outlining goals that he wants the Maricopa Police Department to strive for.  He then went around the room, having each person present introduce themselves, and ask their question.

Some of the points from the meeting include:

He wants to concentrate patrols in areas where there is more crime.  He said "if you make random patrols through neighborhoods, you get random results." If you see officers in your neighborhood, there is a issue they are dealing with.

The Department is revising it's diciplinary policies.  He wants it to be known that Maricopa PD WILL be a professional department, at all levels.

He is reorganizing the department at the upper command levels.  He wants only 2 commanders, one over Law Enforcement, and the other over ancillary programs. They are taking applications for the positions.

Chief Stahl gets animated when he talks about his goals and his vision for the department.

I was very happy I went.
The question and answer session was very unscripted and candid. I like Chief Stahl's personality and the way he interacts with people. He seems very open and I did not feel him as outsider to our community.

I would strongly encourage folks to come out for one of these monthy get togethers in the future.

Do I see a Maricopa360 credential out there? Thanks Dave I loved your write up on this. I know you were just coming off a long shift.

He covered a LOT of information. I wish I had written most of it down.

I need to meet with him this week and cover some of what he mentioned, as it is all positive for Maricopa.

Isn't the contrast amazing from when you get someone in office who's professional and does the job for the sake of the job versus someone who brings a political agenda, cronyism, and poor leadership to the table?  The positive changes in Maricopa started at the top with the new city manager and are filtering down through the ranks.

I have a conversation with a prominent citizen tonight and he said that, having talked with several officers, the rank and file of the department see good things coming with Chief Stahl.  They are looking forward to the tightening of the belt and shortening of the leash that he has planned for the department.

The person I was talking to was going to reserve judgement, though.
