Traffic Collision Smith Enke and Santa Rosa
« on: 21 October 2011, 23:47:58 »
Around 6:30pm, a traffic collision was reported at Smith Enke and Santa Rosa.

One car was on its side. At least 2 people were transported. Injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Ambulances had to avoid another crash at I-10 and Queen Creek on their way to the hospital.

It looked really awful...I hope nobody was badly hurt. Police were there for hours! The Friends were setting up for tomorrow's book sale and it really tied things up around there. Bet one or both were going way too fast! <sigh>

I am not sure the cause. I was actually on my way to 2 events this evening and left before the battalion chief arrived.

The injuries did not appear to be too bad. Both victims were alert and sitting up on side of the road. One was placed on a backboard before being transported.

I'll get more info this weekend. If I was a betting person, I would say that seatbelts were used.

Westbound Smith Enke was closed by the library and traffic was routed through RED. Eastbound had one lane open as rescue workers tended to the victims and PD investigated the scene.

:'( I hope everyone is ok, but this is another prime example of why you should not, Facebook, text, apply maskera, under water gasket weave or anything else while driving. You are operating a weapon that can cause serious injury. Everyone's goal should be to get home safely. Pay attention out there.

My son was behind the older gentlemen in the pick up that was making a left turn into RED. He turned in front of the minivan. My son had to throw the tahoe in reverse to avoid being involved in the accident. I don't think from what my son saw he was doing anything to distract himself. He just didn't see the minivan. I'm very proud of my son and all the passerbys that helped the victims :)

Thanks for the details.

I am also very proud of the people that stopped and assisted. There were quite a few that were lending aid and comfort as well as making sure the victims had things they needed out of the vehicles when they were transported.

This scares me as a motorcycle Ryder. How can you not see a mini van if you are looking? He definatly was not paying attention to driving.

The same way you can NOT see a cop car with lights flashing or a big yellow school bus with all it's lights flashing...

Exactly....and car drivers can learn a lesson from what most moto riders should practice daily. There is no such thing as having the right of way.

My son saw the minivan and saw that an accident was about to happen before it did. His guess is age played a role in this accident. Since he is so young. I question his knowledge of age ;)
