how many do you have growing out there these days?

Several.  I still have the GAP vertical that you helped put up.  I have the 475-foot loop, the 50 foot tower, a high-band HF vertical, two VHF/UHF antennas, and an assortment of dipoles.  You can never have enough antennas.  :)

Actually I have done pretty well in the storms.  I have lightning protection installed.  Plus, when there's a storm  I physically disconnect the main coax from the radio just to be safe.  A common misconception is that lightning needs a direct strike to cause any damage.  Untrue.  Most of the damaged electronics comes from near misses.

This is the antenna that I got to use yesterday.  It's hooked to the nuclear missile at the Titan Missile Museum near Tucson.  It was used during the cold war as part of the communications system that would carry the launch orders that would deploy sixteen missiles all the way from Green Valley to Benson, AZ.  It's 80 feet tall.

I am working on a plan to disassemble this puppy at night and bring it home.  I have a spot picked out for it near the other antennas.  All I need to do is convince Mrs. DD that it's a solar clothes dryer.

Let me know if you need help.  I'm in.
