What this app seems to do is crank up the saturation and contrast so that there is more color and less wash out, which is a product of overexposure in some areas of the picture.  This is usually a result of uneven lighting.

What is sacrificed is detail and sharpness.

Depending on what the pictures are for, they look better than a bad cell phone pic but not as good as a really good cell phone pic.  I have seen some stuff taken with cell phones that is pretty damn impressive without any post processing.  My Droid X has better resolution that one of my first SLRs that cost over a thousand dollars.  Of course, I can't make the adjustments and change lenses to get the right shot.  That's why most cell phone pics are pretty awful - there's no way to compensate for the shooting conditions up front.

I am not an HDR fan.  That doesn't mean it's bad - it's an art form like many others.  Most of what I see though corrupts the original image and makes it more like a painting or a cartoon than a photograph.  I have also seen some very impressive HDR but it was so lightly applied that you wouldn't even know it was HDR unless someone told you.

 I'm just the opposite. I LOVE hdr images. Images like these actually make me want to take out the camera.  :D









  that said, it does take several photos, which is why one of them has bricks where they don't belong. Apparently I pointed the phone at the ground before it was done taking photos.

Yeah, those are some awesome pictures.  They remind me more of a painting that's based on a photo - or even painted over a photo - than it does actual photography, which is probably why I am not a fan.  Nevertheless, it's good art and pleasant to look at. 

When I look at someone's photography, I am always trying to figure out how they had their camera set and where the light was coming from.
