Please Help me Understand
« on: 22 May 2011, 22:47:23 »
Tonight I was looking at the agenda for Wednesday's school board meeting.  There is a RIF of 9 teachers in there.  Will those be in addition to the 40+ from April, or have they narrowed down what positions they really need to eliminate?

Also, why are they affirming the return of 6 teachers?  None of those names are on the April 13th list, why just those six and not list all the returning teachers?

I'm sure you can tell that I'm really new to all of this, so I appreciate your help!

Are teachers under contract for X amount of years? Could the reaffirming be because of a contract renegotiation?

((I don't actually KNOW. Just the first idea that came to mind.))

Those RIFS are in addition to previously approved RIFs.

Teacher contracts are one year at a time. The 're~affirmation' of 6 teachers may mean that their names were erroneously left off the earlier renewal list

Yes,it is a LOT of teachers...and very sad for our kids :'(
Because of this economy,MUSD has back tracked (through no fault of it's own) to where it was  before all the growth in 2002-2005. We're going back to minimal offerings and crowded classrooms.

And yes, check the previous meeting minutes for earlier RIF lists.
