Until the right people in power start to give a poop about education funding, the doomsday cycle of public education funding will continue.

Until the right people across all forms of public education administrative levels realize their fiefdom's are coming to an end, and they need to adapt to the demands of "society', the doomsday cycle of public education funding will continue.

Until the people start voting in people who actually are motivated to make change, the doomsday cycle of public education funding will continue.

Until we all stop spewing rhetoric and demand action, the doomsday cycle of public education funding will continue.

Arghhh...wondered how long this would take to hit the streets :-\

At the March 23 Board meeting, when Sup't Kleck was discussing options, closing a school (and there was a list of the elementaries)WAS mentioned, however it was followed with "That's not feasible...".  Closing a school, while it IS happening in other districts, is not happening (in the near future anyway).

lemme get this straight...
you don't think closing 1 out of our 6 elementary schools is feasible, but you believe that if 3 of 4 first grade teachers were RIF'd, that school would go on with only 1 first grade class?

Just like Council Mtgs, things are taken out of context & then spun in whichever direction (whether by ignorance or plain malfeasance) and then a whole truck load of misinformation is passed around.  Irritating......although I was chatting w/ a MES teacher yesterday afternoon & she actually said to me in all seriousness "the whole district will be gone in 3 years anyway."   :o   Now I know that chances of that are unlikely but to have a currently employed teacher saying things like that just adds fuel to the paranoia fire.

Before that happens, the state will step in and take over the district.  One of the worst run districts in the state (aside from Colorado City) was the Roosevelt district in Phoenix.  The state stepped in and got rid of some corrupt administrators and put the whole thing back on track.

If I were Mr. Kleck and I could identify the teacher who made that statement, that individual would be given their RIF papers.  I see that the district agrees with something that I said earlier - they have a huge PR and image problem and need to compete for enrollment with the charter schools.  If the people who make their living from the district can't support these initiatives, perhaps they should be at one of the charters or at Kyrene.  Likely, that person doesn't have the credentials or the performance history to get hired by either.

Sad,but true PSW.

Here is a real life example that I worked with.

BP Oil had their issue a year ago. Shortly after the accident, their stocks dropped. (Go figure)

I watched it for a while and watched the buzz around it. Many folks opined that the stocks would be junk bond in a month and that the company would be out of business. Never mind who their clients were (US Military, ect). At that point, I bought in. Sux... Another week, they would have been at $24, I bought at $29.

Rumors are fun, but knowledge is more tangeable.

MUSD is not going anywhere, for a lot of reasons.

Even the Rifs are questionable at this time.

There may be a closure, from my understanding. Many folks are working to not make that a reality. Economics and involvement will be key. This chapter has not been written yet.
