Tonight's board meeting.
« on: 13 April 2011, 22:15:13 »
Did anyone here stop by?
If so, what did you think?

KPNX (12) stopped by and just aired their piece.

Getting parents involved in this district has been a challenge.  (at least with the schools we have kids at . . .MWMS and Saddleback)  That shot of the empty audience is not surprising.  That room should've been packed.  And packed at all of the prior meetings as well.  We are currently in Oregon so I am out of the loop.  Can anyone tell me what is getting cut at MWMS.  From what I understand they were the hardest hit?  That makes sense . . . . NOT!

Getting some parents involved with their kids at all is a challenge.  They expect the state to educate them with a minimum of parental involvement.  It's like turn them loose when they're 5 (four if you can swing it) and say, "See ya when you are 25 and have that new MBA, junior".

I'll speak for myself as an absent parent to meetings. I don't follow closely enough nor do I educate myself on the going ons of the district as I should. Working nights doesn't allow me to attend meetings either. No excuses for me, I drop the ball when it comes to be involved or totally saturated in board / district matters. Hopefully the home training and involvement with other activities outside of school will help mold my kids for the real world.

Awwww Ray you parents who are working to provide for your families and can't attend meetings . . . that is understood.  You have to work.  I'm referring to those parents who are able to attend meetings . . ANY meetings like parent/teacher conferences, school info nights, school board meetings, PTO meetings, etc .... and don't go and then complain when something isn't going their way.  There is a lot more to just dropping the lil' rugrat off in the morning and hoping the school takes care of them.  Get to know the ins and outs of your school.  Get to know the administration.  Get to know what areas you can help out in.  Heck - how many of you even know how much time your lil' one gets to eat?  Are they supervised?  Are they eating?  Are they having choices as to what they can eat?  WHAT are they eating?

If this doesn't work ,go to the MUSD site, click "calendar" and then April 13 "Gov.Bd meeting'. The agenda is there. The RIF list is difficult to read (illegible).

Thanks for that link!   :'(  So sad to see my son's 1st Grade teacher from Saddleback on that list.  She was WONDERFUL.  He absolutely adored her!
