A basketball history lesson...
« on: 25 March 2011, 11:53:13 »
Beyond my belief that Kansas is an amazing team, :) , there's some serious basketball history at the school. Basketball was INVENTED at Kansas with two peach baskets. This is an interesting read on the history of basketball.

Considering that this school has numerous records and a winning history,  I am little amazed that the school doesn't produce more NBA stars.  Some of the NBA players that made history at the school are old timers for the most part.

Unlike the UofA Wildcats we produce 2-4 NBA players every yr.  :-*

The best player to play in the NBA came out of NC. The other top two didn't even play college ball.  The best thing out of UofA was/is Jenny Finch

How are several left out of the top three in MY life time. If you want to throw in a fourth then Magic was out of Michigan. So lets recap ... Jordan, Bryant, James, Johnson....U of A did have one of the best journeyman players in MLB history as well, got to give it to Kenny Lofton. When ever there was a team in the playoffs, he was on it. Proud to have had him on the Dodgers squad for sure.

I'm surprised no one contested the claim that basketball was invented in Kansas.

The game was created in Springfield, Mass. by James Naismith at a YMCA.  Yes, he eventually brought it to Kansas, but to say it was invented there is off-base at best.

Good point, Ray.
@UC - It's all good.  I'm hoping your Jayhawks come out ahead.

Danny Manning. Wilt Chamberlain. Amazing athletes.

Twelve Kansas players currently playing in the NBA. In the last 9 years, 9 first round draft picks from Kansas. I could go on and on...
