Shitty budget? I seem to remember voting against a 1% tax increase last year which was earmarked for education. We are seeing cuts anyway, which means that even if that money goes to schools, money that was already going there is now going somewhere else.
One thing has changed since I had kids in school, which was only 15 years ago. The schools have become increasingly politicized. Administration is less about educating schools and more about empire building, ass protecting, and making sure that they get the biggest possible piece of the pie. Putting more money into an inefficient system, be it schools, law enforcement, or a struggling business, only means that money gets wasted more quickly.
I remember when some Geritol-saturated, prune juice drinking old farts in Sun City tried to get themselves removed from paying for schools in their property tax because they didn't have children in school. I guess they weren't thinking about who was going to educate the doctor who did their hip replacement surgery.
