my kids do not attend legacy, but i heard parents talking about this at soccer parties last weekend. they were discussing no high school next year. there were three legacy high school families. one sending their kid to MUSD, one to ahwatukee, and one home schooling for next year.

I heard from a Legacy parent that Legacy has decided to put their funds into growing three other elementary schools instead of a high school.  I was a bit disappointed to hear this.  Although, I have no way of backing this information up.  Just hearsay.

From what I understand, they were not able to secure funding to expand the campus and they simply don't have enough room to keep the high school.

After seeing the huge amount of elementary kids into this school I would not be surprised.  Apparently this is the school to be in, it is busting at the seams.
How can you not believe in the one that gave you the option not to?

More heresy from another parent who is really involved.  Basically although the elementary school is busting at the seams, theres about 8 kids total who would be in high school next year.  In a few years as the kids that are there now get closer, they will probably open up the high school part, but its so few kids now that they cant go through the expense of the whole high school infrastructure for that few of kids.

Thanks for all of the replies.  I have my soon to be 8th Grader on the waiting list for next year with the intentions of him staying for High School.  They had me sold on them currently offering High School and how they see that expanding each year . . . . blah blah blah.  Very disappointing.   :(

wouldn't it make more sense to build now, while building is cheap?

That's what I was thinking. I heard the "no HS" rumor this past summer from a friend who's children attend.  Makes sense to me w/ the small enrollment @ that level but with the upcoming classes it seems smarter to invest now than to wait.  I don't know all the details of their financial situation though....as likely most don't, so who the heck really knows.

Based on how the school is ran and the building that theyve already done, I'm inclined to beleive they already "blew their wad" on the building they just built and were hoping for massive enrollment to get govt. funding to repay it.  They did get massive enrollment ... at the elementary level.

Yes....and kind of the way they have stuff laid out, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have future building in mind....especially the way the parking flows are designed

I think a big issue is no one wants to fund schools right now.  I sat in a meeting last year with the super. for Sequoia schools (Pathway) and they were having a hard time with funding even as a larger district.  Times are just tough for all in education.  It's a bummer for Maricopa, as it would be nice to have more options for high school within the city.  Maybe as they continue to have students move up through the grades they will look into the high school thing again.
