eek.  after shooting i decided to drive out into nowhere until my gas tank hit the halfway mark,  i ended up in some creepy territory.  found a weird pile of bones while exploring this glen that looked like it had been used by migrants.  what was odd was how quiet it was, felt like i was being watched.  shouldn't be out there solo.  I was armed, but what difference does it really make if you're by yourself?

ps: looks like cow bones...did they kill a cow and eat it?  I looked around for the skull but no luck

Those are cow bones.  They are part of the vertebrae - they look like they're a couple of years old.  I usually come across the whole cow, minus the head.

When coyotes take down a big animal, they circle it and tease it until it finally gets worn down and falls.  For some reason that I don't understand, they take the head and drag it off.  It looks like you were in a wash that had been flooded recently from all the vegetation and debris.

I do the same thing going out into the desert.  It's eerie,  quiet, and really kind of neat.  I like going into areas when the only man made thing in view is my Jeep.  I have been out though when I know I was being watched by border crossers.  I have also been close enough to smell the sweat - I know they left the trail or wash and were somewhere hiding until I left.  Now THAT is an unsettling feeling.

I was armed but felt outta luck, I had been shooting all morning so my hearing wasn't that good.  I hurried out in a hurry after I started finding full water bottles. =)

yup was riding quads last spring at the X's with Jr in BF Hidden Valley. I had the X's nine and he had a 45. on each hip... Came accross a patch of green trees where we saw a bunch of huge tires sawed in half, thats when I smelled something that wasn't normal "desert smell". We both unholstered and told Jr to floor it.  Couldn't get out of there fast enough...Felt the eyes on us.
