Growing up in LA, school yard fights weren't uncommon (not that I condone such behavior now as a parent, as a kid it was a different story) I gave a few beat downs and was given more than a few as well. Teach your kids some common sense and give some real world advise. Not that I am saying the kid did anything "wrong" by standing up for her friend, good for her to try and step up. However, the world if a fucked up place regardless of what Disney reality YOU may live in. There is a time and a place for everything, especially when to take a stand, regardless of age. Putting your anti bully hat on when you're out numbered is just stupid. Maybe I'm just an asshat, but seriously life is not a 30 minute sitcom that always ends in mutual agreements and feel good endings. The school may need to see where the supervision was lacking to "help" avoid situations like this going forward. I'll continue to teach my kids how to defend themselves when needed, and when they need to bring in help like teachers, parents, law enforcement etc.
