Wow.  It must be a slow news day when a schoolyard fracas makes the television news.  This has got to be the sloppiest piece of journalism that I have read yet this morning.

I think maybe the original city founding fathers should have incorporated as the "Town of Maricopa".  It sure seems like everyone identifies it that way.

"The third grader threw her down and the three fifth graders proceeded to kick the crap out of her until her little friends were able to get the kids off," Eve said.  Eve has a very profound command of the English language.  I think I would have picked something more eloquent than "kicked the crap out of her" to describe what happened, especially to my own daughter.

"I did tell them to stop and they kept on kicking me until my three best friends pushed them off and picked me up," Trinnity said.  Now if that doesn't sound like an eight year old talking, I don't know what does.  Her three best friends just happened to be there.  I would have thought that the journalist may have wanted to paraphrase what was told to enhance the readability, but then he may have been in a hurry to take off for the holiday.

The blurred picture of the schoolyard doesn't add anything either.  If you can't run a photo of children at play for whatever reason, why run a photo at all.

I wonder why the sheriff was called instead of the police department.

Seriously, if this little girl was attacked my some preteen version of the Crips or the Bloods, then it's a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.  You wouldn't know it from reading this story.  It sounds like mommie is pissed because the juvenile perpetrators weren't immediately rounded up and burned en masse at the stake for assaulting her daughter.

It's interesting that it was buried deep and has not made local news here.

Growing up in LA, school yard fights weren't uncommon (not that I condone such behavior now as a parent, as a kid it was a different story) I gave a few beat downs and was given more than a few as well. Teach your kids some common sense and give some real world advise. Not that I am saying the kid did anything "wrong" by standing up for her friend, good for her to try and step up. However, the world if a fucked up place regardless of what Disney reality YOU may live in. There is a time and a place for everything, especially when to take a stand, regardless of age. Putting your anti bully hat on when you're out numbered is just stupid. Maybe I'm just an asshat, but seriously life is not a 30 minute sitcom that always ends in mutual agreements and feel good endings. The school may need to see where the supervision was lacking to "help" avoid situations like this going forward. I'll continue to teach my kids how to defend themselves when needed, and when they need to bring in help like teachers, parents, law enforcement etc.

Well said Ray.  And we are only getting one side of the argument, and I know with kids, their side is they are always the innocent victim of a cruel world according to them.  Not that 3 on 1 is fair, but there might be more to the story.  The other thing is... so what?  Kids have been fighting at school when I was a kid, when my dad was a kid, and when his dad was a kid.  Its human nature.  To think you can granola it out of kids is just stupid.

A couple kids got into a fight at school... so what?
