On Monday, the City of Maricopa, in conjunction with Union Pacific Railroad, will host a public meeting to discuss upcoming closures as crews resume work on the UPRR’s double track project. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm and will be held in the Board Room at the Maricopa Unified School District Administration Building, 44150 West Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Hartman Road will be closed the weekend of December 18th and 19th, White-Parker Road will be closed January 5th and 6th, and Porter Road will be closed January 7th and 8th. The public meeting will discuss the closures, the work to be completed and the detours that residents will be able to utilize.

Porter will be closed? Anyone know what detours Santa Rosa Springs residents will have to take? Farell RD is still closed isn't it?

I am going to try and hit part of the meeting on Monday. Hopefully there will be some highlightd routes for the area. I don't know if they are planning on any temporary crossings.

They have to do something at Porter, if Farell is still closed the residents of Santa Rosa Springs are trapped!

My guess there would be that Farell needs to be fixed beforehand. Last I heard, the city had bids out. It would not take much to get it back in shape.
I am hoping there are other options for temporary passing to MCG. 3 miles to drive 2 blocks won't be fun. On the other hand, it sounds like the closures will not be long closures.

Copa Senior's secretary and VP(elect) lives there, may see if she'd like to overnight here a couple of nights.

I just glanced at the calendar, unless I read it wrong, that's a Friday and Saturday for Porter. That turns into a school transportation issue. As we all know, any little glitch in that whole system creates a nightmare! Not to mention the rest of our residential needs and access.

There better have Farrell fixed before then. I'm surprised they haven't already. Must be a money issue.

To be honest, I'll give the same advice I did last year when UPRR was doing closings: Go to the meeting. I found it helpfull last time around.
UPRR can do what they want, they have that authority. The city is usually given a statement of what they are going to do and need to work around it. The last round, however, involved the need for access for emergency vehicles. That was their bargaining chip.
In this case, the local area can't be cut off completly. This closure will do that since one road is closed and the crossing will be closed as well.
But, again, I don't have all of the facts in front of me and I don't know what the plan will be to mitigate the access issues that will be raised.

UPRR may be able to do what they want but I would imagine there'd be a huge lawsuit if someone's house burned down because they had access blocked.

Not really. You would be amazed at their power. Actually, 574 from Alterra would be closer than 571 at Porter and Smithe Enke anyhow, and I have used Farell to get to incidents since it has been closed. It is passable, but someof the pot holes would take out a car if you hit them. Heck, even Global Water never really gotin trouble for a broken hydrant in frontof a house that burned pretty close to the ground.

Sounds like Santa Rosa residents are not going to be happy. They will need to take Porter south and then come back to 347, from my understanding. Dave was at the meeting longer than I and can porobably fill in with better details. The crowd for the meeting? Yea.... Lots of folks passed on it.

Doubtful. Zoe Richmond, the Director of Public Affairs for UPRR, presented the overall plan to a handful of residents and media tonight.
