Actually Stagecoach Days predates the forming of the City of Maricopa by about 50 odd years.  It was a Rotary fundraiser that culminated with the barn dance at Sonny Dunn's barn.  Over the years, it went from a MAJOR social event to a minor blip on the calendar and back again.

The barn dance piqued my interest (I *am* from Kansas, afterall!) but the location and 6 pm start time has me not so sure...

Actually, I am looking forward to the Barn Dance. Should be fun. It is at The Duk in the golf cart barn. It should have a good open feel to it. :)

BUT, they could have just kept it Founder's Day and made it plural. I think it was so incredibly stupid to go to StageCoach Days. We're such a new City, we should continue to celebrate that & celebrate out Founder's.  Just add the Barn Dance to Fri and the Sunday festivities to the advertising & let it be.  I personally don't think changing the name will make the barn dance any better not that Sonny has passed. Sure, it may get a few more people because of advertising this year but it could have done the same without changing the name.   Also, the City was trying to get away from the Stagecoach aspect hence the new non-stagecoach logo (yes, the plagiarized one.)

I would have called it "Maricopa Days".  Nice and simple.
