The issue of choice is valid and the insurance companies are part of the reason for the manadatory laws.

There are other reasons, and this is tru fro seatbelts and for helmet laws.

When someone on serously injured in a crash, who pays? The insuranceonly goes so far.

The answer? I do. Each time a person becomes disabled and can no longer function. We pay.

Yes, there is a financial incentive for the laws, as well.

You know, if you fasten your damn seatbelt everytime you get in a car what difference does it make if it's the law or not??

Forget "Click it or ticket", the next time the forum has a get together I'd rather it not be for a funeral, ok?

It would get even better is some just choked on it.

Here is a crash I drove up on last year on 347 just north of town. A wrong way driver in a full size pickup smashed into this car.
I really thought there would be serious to fatal injuries when I arrived.

Not the case. See the 3 kids in the background standing and talking to the fire department? Those were the occupants. Airbags and seatbelts saved them, without a question.

Were they bad drivers? No. They were driving along when someone else caused them to have a bad day.

Actually, only the guy on the far left was in the car.  The other two owned the car, but were at home in Rancho when it happened.
