New traffic signal installed at Porter and Adams:This week, a new traffic signal was placed into operation at Porter Road and Adams Way. The traffic signal was installed to assist with the projected pedestrian traffic that is anticipated from the two schools in this area.
The City performs traffic counts throughout the community on an annual basis. This is used to determine the need for capital improvement projects and, potentially, when these thresholds will be met. The City performs turning movement counts on approximately five intersections a year as part of the annual traffic count program. For more information on the traffic signal process, email

Prevent vehicle burglaries:Over the past 30 days, the City of Maricopa has seen an increase in vehicle burglaries throughout the city. The Maricopa Police Department has responded to this with several public educational releases about vehicle burglary, increased patrol in specified areas and intense investigations that have led to multiple arrests. However, like all crime prevention, this needs to be a partnership between the police and the public.
Vehicle burglaries are one of the most preventable crimes. The vehicles burglaries that are occurring here in Maricopa are not happening in shopping mall parking lots or while people are parked at their place of business. These crimes are occurring at night, in people’s own driveways. Following just a few steps can dramatically reduce your risk of being a victim.
Always park your vehicle in a locked garage.
Always lock the doors, even when you are away from the vehicle for a short time.
Remove all valuables from your vehicle. If you can’t take personal property with you, lock items in the trunk. Do not place them under the seat. This includes your purse or wallet, CDs, books, cash, keys, cell phone, iPod, laptop, garage door opener, gym bag, briefcase, jewelry, tools, packages, etc. If a thief breaks into your vehicle and steals your garage door opener and keys, they have access to your home.
Do not leave ANY mail in your vehicle. These items have your name, address and possibly contain personal financial information.
Remove “pull out” style stereos and/or removable face plates of stereos.
Park in well-lit areas. At home, park your vehicle near porch lights. If you can not park in a garage, install motion detection lights which will illuminate your driveway at night.
Set any alarm or anti-theft device.
