Maricopa Fire responded to a structure fire at 35969 W Marin Av, in the Tortosa area of Maricopa around 3pm, 8-4-2010. They found a single story structure with smoke and fire showing from the attic area. They made entry and located the homeowner, an elderly woman, that was disoriented. Smoke was all the way to the floor. They were able to rescue her with no injuries. They went back in as they fought the blaze and were able to rescue all 6 of her dogs.

Damage to the home was extensive. Units from Sun Lakes, Gila River, and Chandler were also on scene under mutual aid. Firefighters braved 112 degree weather and were rotated in and out of the fire to avoid heat related injuries.

The fire is under investigation. I will post the official release when it becomes available.

dont know if Im off topic with this but just curious. When something like this happens since we all live so close together do neighbors offer restrooms or water or even shade to the fire fighters or is that not allowed??

I know that if a restroom, water or shade (well, A/C, not much in the way of shade trees at my house) were needed for firefighters working on my street, I'd be more than happy to help out.  They have a very difficult job, made much more difficult in this heat, and are helping people in often some of the worst experiences they'll have. . . sharing a little water and having a little extra traffic in the house is easy.

Great question!

MFD has portable shade. They also carry bottled water and gatoraid. They have fans as well. In this case, they set their area up on a driveway accross the street from the structure.

This is their 'cool down area'.

Many firefighters will tell you that they try to hit the head on the way out. That is not always an option. If needed, I am sure a neighbor would allow them a bathroom break.

Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke coming from attic vents at the front and back of the house.

Gotta add one more note and a photo or 2...
This time, the hydrant worked! MFD tapped into the hydrant in front of the structure, as well as a second one about 2 blocks down.
Global Water is still soley responsible for these life and property saving devices.
