Library celebrates beginning of second year with busiest month yet:

The Maricopa Public Library set records in June by circulating more than 23,000 books, DVDs, CDs and video games. In addition, a monthly record was set when over 12,000 people utilized the library.

Several components have gone into this continued increase in library usage. On a national scale, the continued economic climate has found many individuals taking advantage of the library's Internet access for a variety of reasons, the primary reason being job hunting. By utilizing the library's computer access, patrons have filled out countless applications and worked on their resumes on a daily basis.

Another major factor is the new children's area that debuted on June 12 at the library's anniversary celebration. There has been a huge increase in StoryTime attendance and new parents are showing up every day to see their library in action. In addition, the library has increased the total number of books one can checkout from 15 to 20 and the number of DVDs a patron can check out from three to four.

The library continues to grow with the community. As such, plans are underway to continue improving and providing the necessary services that our growing and vibrant community needs.
